Introduction

Realizing the importance of geological information in the economic, social, political and environmental planning of the nation and the urgent need for unified planning and action of several government agencies, each dealing with certain aspects of geological sciences, the National Committee on Geological Sciences (NCGS) was created under the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines on 8 October 1980 by virtue of Executive Order No. 625.

Thirteen (13) government institutions made up the initial core of the Committee, representing a wide spectrum of administration and responsibilities but each one bearing a significant role or influence in the geoscience activities. At present, there are twenty two (22) government agencies constituting the Committee.
